Daydreamers, Drafters, Drifters, and Doers: Part 1

1.5 CPDs  Run Time 1:11

“We must help the child to act for himself, will for himself, think for himself; this is the art of those who aspire to serve the spirit.” –Maria Montessori, Education for a New World

In our environment, certain children are able to act for themselves in an independent and focused manner. They glide through Montessori with our lessons and guidance and often need little direction or re-direction. These children are normalized. Yet a third of our classrooms have children whose minds and bodies are not in sync. While they can appear to be doing just fine, they are not. Why are so many of our children not yet normalized? In this webinar, we will discuss the Daydreamers, Drafters, Drifters, and Doers.

They daydream and seem uninspired in their work. They sometimes draft off of other children, following behind rather than leading. They drift around the room interrupting others and never find their work that engages their body and mind. And there are the doers, who breeze through the work to check it off but have little retention when assessed. These children are an important part of your classroom and giving you, the teacher, and the students the tools to help them feel like a part of the community. Learn about the 4 D’s: Daydreamers, Drafters, Drifters, and Doers, including the behaviors we see of them in the classroom and individual characteristics of each.

We will continue the discussion in “Daydreamers, Drafters, Drifters, and Doers: Part 2.”
