Supporting Parents With Grace and Courtesy

1.5 CPDs   Run Time 1:28

Overview

A parent's influence over a child’s future wellbeing is profound. Most try to do the best they can with the information available to them—but the glut of tips and “techniques” found online, along with an endless stream of well-meaning advice from family and friends, can be confusing—and conflict with the principles, perspectives, and values we are trying to impart in the Montessori classroom. We can view this as an inconvenience or an opportunity. To truly help the child reach his potential, a positive collaboration based on mutual respect and support is needed between educators and parents.

In this workshop, we will discuss how, as Montessori teachers, we can mindfully provide parents with both moral support and concrete information about the planes of development. We will also discuss the benefits of belonging to an online global community (a virtual Montessori “village”) and how to use social media to advocate for quality Montessori education in today’s connected world.
