Supporting the Novice Montessorian: From Preparation to Transformation

In this workshop participants will answer the essential question, “How do I support a new Montessorian on their journey?”  We will engage in discourse about taking the whole self of the adult into account, focusing on listening, being accessible, flattening the hierarchy, fostering friendliness with error, and inviting interrogation in both public and independent school settings.

Candace Fletcher began her Montessori Journey at age 3 and resumed it when she trained at Xavier University, earning an MEd and AMS Elementary I Credential. Candace has extensive experience in public Montessori schools as a teacher and school leader in Ohio, California, and Nevada. Her passions lie in school startup, humanizing teacher education, and contributing to the movement to provide access to high-fidelity Montessori for all children. Candace considers it a privilege to guide and support adult learners in the Montessori Teacher Residency at NCMPS.
Katie Mosquera, a public and private Montessori guide, educator, instructor, and coach, has spent 24 years growing in, learning from, promoting, and building others’ capacity to implement the Montessori pedagogy. She holds an AMS Elementary I-II credential, an AMS Instructor Academy certificate, an MEd in curriculum and instruction, an educational leadership certificate, and Maryland teacher and administrator licenses. Katie currently is focused on Montessori teacher education, supporting and instructing instructional coaches and teachers in Montessori public schools across the country.
Karen Simon, BA, has been a Montessori educator for 30 years, teaching children as well as adults. She was born in Venezuela and has lived in the US since the '70s. She directed and taught at her Montessori school in Florida for 20 years. She now focuses on teacher education and making Montessori more accessible in English and Spanish through volunteer work with MACTE and her work at NCMPS as a bilingual instructor and coach.
