The Culturally Responsive Prepared Environment

This workshop will take an in-depth look at the materials we develop, purchase, and bring into our environments. Are these materials reflecting different ethnicities, social classes, gender roles, abilities? This workshop will provide checklists for determining the potential bias of our materials, as well as give specific examples of materials that exemplify diversity. Attendees will have an opportunity to create materials to use in their culturally responsive prepared environment.

Kathie Sweet, MEd, has been the director of a Montessori Teacher Education at a university in Nebraska. She taught for a public school Montessori program for 23 years and has been a teacher trainer for 16 years. AMS credentialed (Early Childhood, Elementary I).
