Whole School Communities - What They Are and How to Build Them

1.5 CPDs   Run Time 1:31

Seeking community is human nature, and we see this desire for social reinforcement play out among our students in our classrooms. At times, however, we get so focused on our individual classrooms that we lose sight of the importance of our whole-school community. From student, to teacher, to school leadership, to parents, and beyond, our school communities can present support and a foundation from which to serve each child holistically.

In this webinar, we will discuss what we need to create community beyond the classroom; ways to assist children across all ages in assuming contributing roles; and opportunities for how you can be an active member of your school community beyond the walls of your classroom.

Learner Outcomes

  • Gain a greater sense of the significance of community in your personal life, in the culture of your school, and in the development of empathy in your students.
  • Be given hands-on ways to build community in our classrooms, empowering children to be the backbone of your community.
  • Effectively engage the whole school community.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the importance and management of parent relationships.
  • Recognize peace and social justice as outcome of the communities we develop rather than as a taught curriculum.
