Writing Engagement Through Art

Designed for Elementary Montessori teachers who are interested in increasing students’ writing interest across different subject areas, Art-Integrated Writing is a method that hooks all young writers into loving to write every day. In this workshop, participants will walk away with a refreshed look at teaching writing. Art-Integrated Writing empowers Elementary Montessori students to write across the different subject areas. We will discuss the theory, then do an art activity along with a writing prompt. Teachers will leave with a good understanding of how to create these types of lessons.

Biographies:
Kim Anh (first) Anderson (last), MEd, has worked for almost two decades with youth and college students to find their excitement in creative writing. Her continued work with the local chapter of the National Writing Project and the Montessori teaching method have brought joy to countless Montessori youth writers over the years. As a practitioner, she has used creative writing as a self-care tool, a path to navigating her professionalism in both her mother tongue and English, and to model to her young students how to find their own powerful and creative voices. Montessori trained 3 – 12. Kim Anh is a lifelong learner, garden nurturer, and creative thinker.

Spramani Elaun is an author and art curriculum developer from San Diego, CA. Her success is led by observations and real-life practice of how children cognitively and sensorially process art over twenty years. She is the founder of Nature of Art® Art school & Art supply company, Art Teaching Blueprint Montessori Certification Training Program. Spramani holds degrees in Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, Visual Communications, Print Media, and Fine Arts.
