Spontaneous Activity in the Montessori Environment
New from AMS Learning!

Spontaneous Activity in the Montessori Classroom

In this self-guided class, we will define what Montessori education means by Spontaneous Activity—a hallmark of our practice that is often misunderstood, conjuring up notions that children and adolescents are impulsively doing what they want, when they want, in our classroom environments. We will revisit Dr. Montessori’s vision of Spontaneous Activity and look at its importance in relation to the work of the child, the role of the teacher, and the significance of the environment. We will also explore ways observation supports Spontaneous Activity and explore how our approach to mistakes and redirection can influence Spontaneous Activity in our environments and help us understand the development of the whole child.

Digital Citizenship in Montessori Education

This self-guided class focuses on defining Digital Citizenship and its essential components within the Montessori education framework. Participants will receive a toolkit of resources and strategies to help them select lessons tailored to their classroom environments and community. Each of the six modules in this dynamic multimedia course includes a brief introduction, content for participants to review, a related game or activity, and a required discussion post. The modules offer examples of concrete classroom activities, ground rules, and guidance on fostering an environment where Digital Citizenship skills—such as online safety, critical thinking, and responsible digital footprint management—can develop and thrive in students of any age, even if no technology is used in the classroom.
