    This AMS on-demand, self-guided class introduces the United Nation's sustainable development goals (SDGs) and offers practical ways Montessori guides at all levels can begin implementing (or enhancing) sustainability within their Montessori environments.

    8 CPDs, Estimated to take 6 hours to complete

    In this self-paced course, educators will explore why sustainable development is fundamental to Montessori education and modernizing our context of cosmic education. Through practical examples and resources, educators will explore ways to cultivate a sense of environmental consciousness, social responsibility, and economic awareness in their students. By the end of the class, educators will be equipped with the tools to educate and inspire students of all ages as they develop into the next generation of sustainability leaders.

    The class will take approximately 6 hours to complete with no homework assignments. Each of the 6 class lessons/modules of this dynamic multimedia course includes a short introduction, content for the participant to review (including videos, podcasts, readings, resources, etc.), a game or activity related to the content, and a required discussion post. Each lesson/module is estimated to take approximately one hour to complete. You will have 180 days (approx. six months) from the date of purchase to complete the class and download the certificate that grants 8 hours of professional development. For the best user experience, we recommend using a desktop/laptop but content can also be accessed on mobile devices. Certificates will only be awarded for full completion of the class.

She received her Master's in Education in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University, Teachers College, and her ADHD coach certification from the Institute for the Advancement of AD/HD Coaching. She has trained with Dr. Edward Hallowell and Dr. Ross Greene. She is a recognized Keynote speaker and provides Professional Development for school districts and other professional organizations nationwide, addressing how ADHD and executive function deficits impact children and how to help boost behavior and performance in school and at home. Cindy is the author of 8 Keys for Parenting Children with ADHD, a book recognized for providing parents, educators, and therapists with a practical, easy-to-read guide for addressing challenging kids. She is the creator of the workshop series “Calm and Connected: Parenting Children with ADHD©,” designed to teach parents and caregivers how to manage and support their children's unique needs successfully. Through her ADHD Parent Coach Academy, she works to train other professionals.

    Antria Goss is the Montessori Instructional Coach for Cincinnati Public Schools. She is an author and qualified elementary school teacher who holds a master’s degree in education. She is Montessori credentialed at the EC and lower elementary levels. Antria currently works with and supports teachers with curriculum and instruction at the six Montessori elementary schools in CPS. Her position includes collaborating with district administrators including content managers, directors, and principals as well as being an advocate for the Montessori curriculum. Antria has worked as a content developer for the American Montessori Society for the Curriculum Coaching Academy Course. She has also taught the 6-9 Montessori language materials Course for Xavier University.

    The beginning of the school year has an incredible impact on the success of the rest of the year. However, we may find that as another new school year approaches, we go through the motions of Back to School Nights and Transition Visits without considering our intended goals or understanding how we can use these events to cultivate trust and form connections. Or perhaps we may start the year with lofty expectations, believing that this is the year we can "do it all." In this instance, we may need to come to terms with the fact that while our intentions may be boundless, our energy and time are finite.

    "In Finding Balance: Connection and Boundaries in Montessori Communities", teachers and administrators will learn how to form meaningful connections with families in equal measure to communicating and practicing healthy boundaries. The sooner students and families feel a sense of connection as well as an understanding of the reasonable limits of what their school community can offer them, the sooner they can begin to thrive in their new environment!

    Christine Carrig, M.S.Ed,  the founding director of Carrig Montessori School in Brooklyn, NY for this webinar. She has been in Montessori education for the past 19 years as both a teacher and administrator. She is also the Writer in Residence for the Khora: Maternal and Reproductive Psychology Lab at Teachers College, Columbia University where she focuses on the intersection between maternal development and child development.     Digital Citizenship in Montessori Education is designed to help Montessori educators integrate Digital Citizenship principles into their teaching practices. Participants will define Digital Citizenship and its essential components within the context of Montessori education. The course covers strategies for promoting digital equity, inclusion, and addressing inherent biases in digital systems. Educators will receive a toolbox of resources and strategies to draw upon for selecting DC lessons suitable to their classroom environments and class community.     Dana Anderson

    Dana Anderson, MS, is a seasoned educator, journalist, and kids' digital content specialist. Her 12-year tenure with the nonprofit Common Sense Media as well as extensive work with tech companies on children's and adolescents' experiences with tech highlight her skills in high quality content assessment and creation. As Montessori teacher, Dana has experience working with and creating Montessori environments especially for neurodiverse students and students with special learning needs. Dana has taught at the Pre-K to High School levels and currently teaches Middle and High School students. Dana serves on the tech workgroup of the AMS Innovation Fellowship Think Tank, and she is deeply committed to making education more responsive to and inclusive of kids and teens’ voices, particularly in the realm of Digital Citizenship. 

    Samantha Gleisten

    Samantha Gleisten has been teaching in a Montessori classroom for over 16 years. She has extensive experience in curriculum development, professional learning, and digital/STEAM integration across diverse learning environments and specializes in bringing cutting-edge digital literacy, AI literacy, maker education, and design thinking methodologies into the Montessori environment. Sam holds Elem I and II credentials and is the Innovation and Technology Coordinator for Rogers Park Montessori School. She is most proud to be the mom of three wonderful Montessori kids.

    A new approach to teaching and learning media and digital literacy in Montessori preschools.

    A team of Montessori teachers, trainers, and researchers in Bulgaria developed a new approach to teaching and learning media and digital literacy in Montessori preschools. Following the principles of an action research project, the team developed and assessed the usage of multi-sensory Montessori materials that teach six media and digital literacy aspects - information literacy, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, safety, problem-solving (Tsourapas & Thompson, n.d.), and critical thinking. Furthermore, the research team aimed to use as few technological aids as possible.

    Desislava Stoeva is a Montessori trainer and Assistant professor at the pedagogical faculty at Sofia University. In 2008, she established the first Montessori school in Bulgaria. She is currently completing her PhD where she engaged in action research which incorporated hands on materials to introduce Digital literacy in Early Childhood Montessori classrooms.

    In an increasingly globalized and unstable world, religious education in a Montessori setting needs to robustly contribute, in the words of Maria Montessori, to “build a world that will be the world of peace”. “Children are thirsty for a great vision” that great religious stories can foster. By learning to focus on the underlying unity in World Religions and recognizing the commonalities in human spiritual life, such as contemplation, they develop the capacity to contribute to social change, create unity and contribute positively to their community.
